Northern Tier
Northern Tier!
Wake-up is at 6:00 am. We pack up our gear, tents and then breakfast (crème of wheat and a granola bar). Brandon does not like the crème of wheat but works it down knowing he'll need the energy. The lake is beautiful...still, dark, lightly lifting fog with birds singing. The faint thumping of a grouses' wings (mating call) can also be heard intermittently. We're on the lake by 8:30 am.
Good Morning Campers !! It is 6:00am. We're sopped in with fog. We have breakfast (granola, milk, coffee and a granola bar). We head out after packing and tent breakdown. It's a partly overcast morning. It's really beautiful here on Stonehouse lake. After a short hour of canoeing, we hit our first portage, it's ‘Vietnam.' The swamp/marshy mess goes on about a ½ mile. However, it seems rather long.....that is because we have taken a wrong turn. We end up in a small lake we now call "Lake of the lost Soul." We boil water for dinner and the adults take a quick swim to ‘wash clothes.' Matthew Gill joins us, the rest look at us as if we're nuts. Barb swims too. Dinner is Chilli Mac. However, the white cake wins everyone over. Brandon and I also fish before dinner and again afterward. I catch a couple of Northern Pike, 22 inches and 16 inches.

These are a few of the memories and photos from Dr. Eckart Pape - Tour Director Northern Tier 2007.
