THE SCOUTING UNIFORM
Troop 497, being sponsored by Baylor University, wears a Kelly green neckerchief with double gold ribbons.
- All Scouts and Adults are expected to wear Class A on the night of the monthly Board of Review.
- A green and gold troop T-shirt or any other scouting shirt is expected to be worn to all other troop meetings and outings.
- Shirts should be tucked into shorts or trousers.
- A Troop 497 cap (black with green numerals or khaki with green embroidery) is also available.
- Only the troop cap or other Boy Scout Insignia caps and hats may be worn to troop functions.

This is the uniform one would wear to a Court of Honor, to a special event, or when posing for an official photograph. It shows you in your best Scouting attire, and displays your most recent honors and accomplishments.

This is the uniform for all other formal and public Scouting occasions: troop Board of Review, activities, camping, ceremonies, merit badge colleges. This is the "travel uniform" of the BSA, which means that medals and other items are to be LEFT OFF and replaced with appropriate square knots and other insignia for youth and adults. This is the uniform for which the public knows us.

The activity uniform is worn by Scouts and Scouters participating in a vigorous outdoor or indoor activity or game.

This is the "get grubby and wet and nasty" uniform, or the leisure uniform suitable for the immediate camp site between programs and activities, and for service projects and activities that might be destructive to clothing (e.g. painting).
